Week 5: Meeting and commuting

Although I have always traveled on Campus to Campus bus service for sheer comfort, this week I realized its importance as necessity. I had two meetings in Ithaca and three meetings in NYC to attend in a span of four days. My first and foremost meeting was on Monday with my clinical advisor. As I was in Ithaca on Sunday, 5:40 am bus made sure that I reached Weill Medical College just in time. The meeting went well as we further discussed the plan to carry out research, which most notably may start before the end of the summer immersion. All we are waiting for is an IRB approval to add me as a co-investigator, so that I can get access to the MRI images. The good news is that the plan from where to start is ready, and I will get going from the very second I receive the approval.

The second meeting was on Tuesday with Dr. George Shih. I wanted to know from him how MRI images are processed and stored, and the problems that are encountered. After explaining the whole process, he candidly told me that any improvement will not benefit the hospital but only vendors and contractors. The storage and processing are outsourced  at a price which are not subject to change. However, he did mention his view on how the MRI images can be used to help prioritize the cases, helping doctors. I liked the idea and offered to work on such project, whenever it gets started.

On Wednesday and Thursday, I was in Ithaca to discuss and plan the upcoming software development projects and update on the preparation of my research papers. Again, C2C was the savior, without which I wouldn't have reached on time.

Friday was the group meeting! During the conversation, I realized that I haven't had any OR experience. Only thing I need is a surgeon and a scrub. Thankfully, as a lot of people offered help, getting an approval of a surgeon will not be a problem. However, obtaining a scrub can be a difficult task! Hopefully, I will be in OR seeing patients cut open next week. I am really excited!
