Week 5: Little Girl, Who Do You Think You Are Talking To?

Because of Independence Day,  the short week lead to a plethora of crazy occurrences throughout the weekend.  My friends Dominique and Karmelia arrived on Thursday evening and Korie, my friends and, I all went out to a rooftop lounge.  On Friday, I got up super early to meet my boyfriend Jeph at the airport because I knew he probably would not be able to maneuver in the city just yet.  Once we arrived back on he Upper East Side, we all went to Union Square for shopping as well as the Museum of Sex.  On Saturday, Dominique and Karmelia came to Olin Hall and claimed that a hobo followed them from the train station.  I decided to look outside to see what was going on and it turns out it my friend Akia had surprised me by coming up to visit for my birthday.  In the spirit of Independence Day, we rode the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty before going out to celebrate my birthday with my friends before they left.

On Monday, Korie, Jeph, and I went to Brooklyn to walk around.  On our way back, we were going through the entry way of the train station and I asked Jeph and Korie if they were ready to go.  While asking this, there was a man that I saw out of my peripheral vision who was exiting the subway terminal.  After that, I heard "Little girl, who do you think you are talking to?  That's a grown man (referring to Jeph)."  I politely ignored the man because I thought that he was just playing and would continue on his way to his destination.  However, he kept calling me little girl and going on about who I was talking to even after all of us had passed through the swipe station.  I finally realized that, judging off my height, he thought that I was a disrespectful little girl.  I continued to ignore him, but he kept saying "Little girl" and continued to talk even when we were well into the terminal to get to the subway.  I finally realized that the man may have been under the influence or maybe delirious, so it was a good idea to not say anything and continue on our way.  It was both funny and creepy at the same time, but we all continue to laugh about it to this day.  To end the birthday celebratory events. Jeph and I walked throughout Central Park as well as attended a Yankees game on Tuesday before he left to go back to Georgia.  Overall, this was one of the best birthdays I have ever had!

On the clinical side, I met with Dr. Joe Osbourne from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center today in order to discuss his research on PET/CT imaging with prostate and brain cancer as well as set up a time for next week to shadow him, so I am looking forward to that.  Also, I have a meeting with my mentor, Dr. George Shih on an application for patients in the waiting room.  Next week seems like it will be a great week to hopefully work on my project as well as experience another adventure in the big city :)
